Winner of the 1997 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, this steamy production of the Kander and Ebb classic was actually the winner of six Tonys in 1997. The story tells of Roxie Hart, a struggling chorus girl who gains notoriety and success on the stage after she takes the life of her boyfriend. This new 'career move' touches off a complete feeding frenzy that immediately makes the killer into a well-recognized, almost revered sensation. The shenanigans that surround her trial, including a suspect attorney and story-hungry media, sound vaguely familiar, don’t you think? This play is presented at the Shubert Theatre, which housed A Chorus Line in a previous life.
Opened: November 14, 1996. Category: Revival-Musical. Running Time: 2 hrs 30 minutes with one intermission. 1997 Tony Awards: Best Revival (Musical), Best Actor (James Naughton), Best Actress (Bebe Neuwirth), Best Director, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design. |
